Entropy and 4 Yugas

The Entropy is a measure of “disorder”. To get a feel or idea of what exactly it means, consider the book “Electronic devices and circuits by Millman & Halkias”, which is a textbook of 752 pages. Let’s do this experiment by unbinding that book, throwing it high into the air and gather all sheets as a stack. The pages now will be in a random order unlike before. The reason is obvious, there are many possibilities for the pages to be in random order, while there is only one chance for the pages to be in order like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 to 752. The thing to grasp here is that, the more possible ways there are for something to happen, the more likely is to happen (From the book Fabric of Cosmos). The same applies here, there are more ways the pages can go out of order so the more likely it is to happen.
Entropy is a concept taken from this, which states precisely that “High entropy implies that there are many ways and Low entropy implies that there are few ways”. The essential features to grasp from entropy are
Entropy is a measure of amount of disorder.
In any system with many chances there is a natural evolution towards a greater disorder (Second law of thermo dynamics).
The same can be applied for an egg. We can only see an egg to shatter but we cannot see all the shattered pieces of an egg to form an egg again because there are many ways (higher entropy) for an egg to get shattered but there is only one way for all the shattered pieces to form an egg again, although there is still a possibility for it to happen according to classical physics. So, according to the entropy, an egg’s natural tendency is to evolve toward states of higher entropy.

According to the Hindu calendar there are four Yugas, Satya Yuga (Dharma stood on all four legs during this period), Treta Yuga (Dharma stood on three legs during this period), Dwapara Yuga (Dharma stood on two legs during this period ) and Kali Yuga (Dharma stood on only one leg during this period). This says that the dharma is getting disordered as each Yuga passes. There are many ways for dharma to get disordered. For instance, in the present world, there are many things to trigger a person’s mind negative like money, power, jealousy, selfishness, vengeance and many more but, there is only one way for dharma to be in order. It is like the only thing which triggers one to restore dharma or to maintain dharma in order is to do good. So according to entropy, it is the tendency of any natural system to evolve towards the higher entropy. Maybe it is the reason why the dharma is running towards the higher entropy. But If you go back to the example of the book with 752 pages the book, it was in a higher entropy state (disordered state) before it was bound and published but when we bind the book it returned to a low entropy state (ordered state like with all the pages in order 1,2,3,4…..752). The thing to grasp here is from a higher entropy state the book returned to a lower entropy state and when you unbind and throw it in the air again it returned to the higher entropy state (disordered state). It is symmetric.

The same thing holds for dharma. At the end of Kali Yuga some superior power in the form of “Kalki” will come to the earth and restore dharma, so again the Satya Yuga will start. Again, dharma from higher entropy state (Kali Yuga) was restored to lower entropy state (Satya Yuga) and the cycle continuous to Kali Yuga again (high entropy state). This is my point of view of a relation between entropy and the four Yuga’s of Hindu calendar.

Nature always follows symmetry, may be that is the reason anything in nature or we humans are always symmetric from outside. Interested to know about symmetry?? Please don’t miss my upcoming article on “Symmetry”.
