Uncertainty and Mahabharata

In atomic scale Uncertainty is something which is one of the key points in quantum physics which states that the more precise you know about the position of the particle the less precise you know about its speed and similarly the more precise you know about the speed the less precise you know about its position. Quantum uncertainty prevents us from simultaneously determining the position and velocity. It is not that we are unable to measure both the features simultaneously, but It says it does not possess both the properties simultaneously. If you measure for position of a particle the position property is exposed and If you measure for velocity of a particle the velocity property is exposed but it does not possess both the properties until you measure any of it.

This property of uncertainty can be seen in Mahabharata. Mahabharata is one of the greatest Indian epics. In Mahabharata Barbarik is the grandson of Bhima and the son of the Ghatotkacha who is so powerful that he can finish the war of Mahabharata in just a minute if he fights alone. But when it is asked to whom he will support either for Kauravas or Pandavas he told he will join the side which was weaker at any point of time. Lord Krishna understood the paradox and realized that Barbarik will be wavering between the two sides and eventually destroy both the sides except himself. Then Krishna asks for Barbarik head, by saying it is required to worship the battlefield with the head of the greatest kshatriya before the start of the war and also considered Barbarik as the greatest kshatriya at that time.
The uncertainty of Barbarik is also similar to the uncertainty we talked about in quantum physics. Just as like any particle in atomic scale does not possess both the properties (position or velocity) until you measure for the one .Barbarik also does not have any knowledge on to whom he should support in the war until someone measures who is getting weaker at that point of time. In simple words he will ask who is getting weaker and then he will support them at that point and in the next second if you ask to whom he will support he will ask again who is getting weaker. It is like he won’t expose his decision until you measure who is getting weaker at that point of time. If we talk about the quantum uncertainty in the human language the particle has no knowledge on which property to expose until you measure either of the property. It is like if you ask the particle which property you have? It will ask you back which property you want? If you say I am measuring for velocity, then it will expose that particular property and similarly if you measure for position it will expose that property. The quantum uncertainty in Atomic scale is similar to the uncertainty of Barbarik in Mahabharatha.
